In the Stuttgart area two road axes are especially important: the A8 running from east to west and the A81 running from north to south. The A8 links Stuttgart with Karlsruhe, Pforzheim, Ulm and Munich, among other places, while the A81 runs towards Heilbronn and further south through Rottweil towards Singen.
